Fantastic place to come fish or camp. Just far enough away from civilization to find some peace.
I tent-camped recently at Summit Lake with my family (wife, kids 3 and 5 years-old), and we had a great experience. I haven't been there in years, and I was very impressed by all the improvements that have been made since I was there last. It's nothing sophisticated, but everything seemed nice and well-maintained. I didn't have a chance to fish, but I've heard good things from others. The camp sites were nice, well-laid out, and the mosquitoes weren't bad at all while we'were there. We'll definitely be going back again soon.
We did not fish, but we did see a number of people fishing, and there are a number of nice manmade peninsulas out into the lake along with the docks where you could fish from shore.
There are a couple of boat ramps on either side of the lake, and there are nice docks going out on several sides of the lake where you can put kayaks in the water.
The swim beach is large, but full of weeds, and because of the birds, we heard there were chiggers (swimmers itch), so my daughter went in briefly, but did not stay in long.
The lake scenery is nice as it is a reservoir tucked into the hills, and there are some nice mature trees surrounding it. As much of the lake shore is state park there is not much development giving it more of an wilderness feel.
Nice place to Camp and Fish. I boat here regularly. Possibly the only drawback is 5 mph speed limit on entire lake. Very Nice, NEW electric campsites. (@$17. Night with electric.) Lots of geese, loons, nature. Very peaceful on less busy days/holidays. Just a few miles from Tekamah NE. & supplies/gas. Family friendly.
We used to go to summit all the time before the renovation and the updates and we loved it, the fishing was good. It was a real fun place to camp and we definitely need to get back there again!
There is a small and older playground near the larger campground that can be used for day use people as well. There are a couple of shelters for picnics as well.
We spent 2 days camping here with our 20ft. camper. It was very nice and reasonably priced. We brought some kayaks, and as this is a no wake lake, my family was able to really enjoy the time on the water. We had a big site right on the lake with electricity. There are no water hook ups (there was a community spigot) and on our side there were only outhouse type restrooms. The main camping area was larger and did have restrooms with showers that are coin operated. As we were only there for a couple of days we did not use them, but I did look inside and they looked nice. The fire pits were okay, but had been dugout a little deep so it made the fire sit in a hole in the ground almost below the grate.
